I can't help myself. There may be pain ahead. Here I go, head first.

This proves to me that you are the bravest man I know.

Let me know how it goes.

Sounds interesting. Hope it doesnt do weird things to your pc. But then again you may thrive on weird things. Or maybe you are just weird. Or a computer geek. Then again, maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about and am simply just rambling. I vote rambling..

Ok wandering off again....

Tricky at the minute Sarah. Loaded as a dual boot in a separate partition.

Still, it auto configured everything in the box which my last attempt at linux certainly did not, and in about 1/5 of the time XP takes to install. Comes pre-packaged with office suites, browser, mail and IMclient etc.

Added my printer easily, it has all the drivers for all the printers and auto-configures it. Can also run from the cd drive as a live cd so no need to permanently install. Works with one of my routers on the LAN but not wireless (although I think there's an ISP problem on my wireless router's line as it won't load pages when booting from XP either).

Firefox runs either super fast or keeps stopping on downloading, particularly media and file downloads. Will have to boot up in XP to see the rest of your vid. Can only get 5 seconds of it downlaoded.

I hear MEPIS 6 is currently the easiset and most stable. And as it's linux no need for a firewall or anti-virus (perhaps that's what helps pages load faster too.) If I had another p.c. or laptop I'd do a stand alone install.

Anyway, why did I start this in the first place?

Brave spelt s t u p i d I think.

Sher, see above.

... Weird? Computer geek? Nah. Just a twat.

Well Monty...has there been pain? Was it enjoyable?

Easier than expected. The wireless may take the rest of my life to get indstalled however.

Seriously, there is light..... in the form of an app. called ndiswrapper. Uses the Windows driver. Partly worked it out.

Of course ,ended up changing ISPs halfway through just to confuse matters.

I don't think there's enough green tea and vicotin in this house for me to even attemt any undertaking like that now. I applaud you.

I had problems with a partition in my last pc....that says a lot doesn't it?
